Essential Questions

Good essential questions have some basic criteria in common:
· are the questions a researcher explores while researching the topic.
· are open-ended and resist a simple or single right answer.
· are deliberately thought-provoking, counterintuitive, and/or controversial.
· require you to draw upon content knowledge and personal experience.
· can be revisited throughout the unit to engage you in evolving debate.
· lead to other essential questions.
· encourage a deeper understanding of a topic.

Directions: Develop and post a total of eight essential questions on your Wiki, including the first four questions that were started for you below. You may not end up answering all of these questions in your paper, but they should guide you as are searching for information on your genre.
